Eiermarkt (Easter Egg Market) Braunschweig 2014

IMG_3699 IMG_3711_b IMG_3704 IMG_3713_b IMG_3706_b IMG_3702 IMG_3708_b IMG_3714_b

I don't know about you but I personally had never heard of an Egg Market before finding out we were gonna have one in town not one week ago. Gotta love all o' Germany's little surprises. The market itself was held in a cloister, which felt odd because didn't Jesus kick out a bunch o' people who were selling things in a church way back in the day? Nevertheless, the place was hustlin' and bustlin' so I took as many pics as I could before having to hurriedly leave for a breath of fresh air.

While I find the idea lovely and I truly admire the meticulous handiwork that goes into these eggs, I didn't feel the need to buy any. Why buy when you can make 'em yourself? [insert flashback of having a jolly ol' time hand-painting Easter eggs back in Mrs. Jung's grade 1 class] HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!

Madonna and Child

I spotted these Madonna and Child statues everywhere in Belgium, especially in the cities. They're just there, jutting out of buildings, flat buildings I presume... some of them more elaborate than others (e.g. lit up or strewn with flowers). I found them simply fascinating to say the least. And after doing some research, I found out a Madonna and Child statue created by the one and only Michaelangelo sits in one of the churches in Bruges (which we unfortunately didn't see, boo us). Could this be a reason why different versions of the statue can be seen everywhere?

Die Geschichte von der Maus im Laden

The local library had a table full of free books they were giving away recently. This particular kids' book caught my eye, and this particular story happened to be my favourite. It's about a mouse who sneaks into a food shop in the middle of the night and ponders and ponders what food to eat first until finally, someone arrives at dawn and shoos the poor little mouse away. Wie Schade!

The original story is written in German, and if you're interested, you can read the whole thing here. The story's from a book called Achtundzwanzig Lachgeschichten by Ursula Wölfel. And all the illustrations in the book are created by Bettina Anrich-Wölfel. Perfect to satisfy your daily dose of artsy fartsyness!

RELiGIO is a really kool religious museum of sorts located not far from Münster. It's in a small town called Telgte. We visited it the other day and I found it fascinating! What's more, we were able to see the "only during Christmastime" Krippenmuseum, where artists from all over the world have their mangers (most are sculptures, but some are paintings or drawings) showcased at the museum. Sadly, most of my pics of the mangers turned out too dark. Here are some aesthetically-interesting postcards I spotted and I've decided to share instead. Still pondering what country they're from... any guesses?

Schoko-Werkzeuge 2012 Weihnachtsmärkte

We spotted these rather realistic-looking chocolate tools Werkzeuge and such at a few of the Xmas Markets this year, and André says he only started seeing them at the markets within the past few years, so the concept's still new-ish. I was curious to know how good they tasted, but at the same time I was fine with simply admiring them as pieces of art. The scissors and the keys tickled my fancy the most. It cost a whopping 4,00€, however, for one of the smallest pieces they had (I think that was the price of the mini car), and I refused to pay more than that. Schmeh, there's always next year!

Rausch SchokoMuseum / Chocolate Museum

A chocolate museum exists a mere 33km away from us, how kool is that?! It's located in a small town called Peine, and we missioned there by train not long ago just to check out what this SchokoMuseum was all about. Though I can't say it's a must-see, it's a rather informative museum and here's the best thing about it: they have a mini volcano that blurbbles and blubbles out melted chocolate! Look closely at the pic above. That's real chocolate stained on all the walls! Sadly, I never saw the volcano erupt ;(

A mock candy shop was another interesting sight at the museum, and what you see two pics up are typical marzipan candies from "back-in-the-day" Germany. Having said that, I have yet to see such intricately beautiful marzipan treats in any Konditoreien here these days. But the hunt continues...!

Attached to Rausch SchokoMuseum is a shop where people can buy everything the company offers. One can even buy chocolates in bulk here, and the concept of bulk anything is a rarity in Germany! 'Course I couldn't go home empty-handed, so I decided to try these four balls. Three of them were mediocre at best (i.e. Anh's truffles are far better in terms of taste and quality) but one of them was decent. Hint: My fave ice cream flave is Maple Walnut. Can you guess which one I actually liked?

#TYPELOVE #PARIS

Bondz and I are such typography nerds. Inspired by my sissy's Type-Fiendin' in Paris et Roma post, here's some more of that type ish to get you all hot and bothered. Taken sometime last month during our 4-day jaunt 'round one of the most visited cities in the world, I feel like these photos capture tiny glimpses into what Paris is all about. She's brash and overrated but I love how she's also grimey yet dainty and oh-so-cosmopolitan. Wanna know what's b-b-badass? Madeleines from a vending machine.

Creepy clock at random German train station

I don't even know what train station this is, but we passed by it last last weekend somewhere in the middle of Germany. Creepy, ain't it? André and I both agree that this is #real #art right here. #realtalk

Phat Chicks, 2009 | 2-colour | 1/20

Black on black on blackkkk! Wowzers, ya'll. I'm really bringin' it back to 2009 with this piece. Yup, it was one of my screenprint projects from OCAD. This was the only print that I really liked out of the entire batch - partly because the top layer misregistered and I liked how we ended up looking so freakish (with the double eyes n' all). Though I miss my artsy ways, I'm happy with being creative in other ways nowadays. Cheers to trying new things, pursuing other interests and chasing the dream!

TOP 8: dOCUMENTA (13)

dOCUMENTA is a huge art exhibition that takes place in Kassel only every five years and it originates back to 1955. So how lucky are we to be living only a few hours from Kassel by train?! We spent one whole scorching hot day (18.08.12) checking out as much art as we could at this year's dOCUMENTA. Here are my Top 8 favourite pieces...

To the artists of the above pieces, I apologize for not mentioning your names in this post. Important: I do not claim to be the artist of any of these pieces, and one can likely find out the names of the artists by visiting dOCUMENTA (or Googling) for oneself. Gotta admit... aside from these Top 8, as a whole, I found most of the art that I saw at dOCUMENTA to be either too rudimentary or just plain Scheiße.
