macarons are not macaroons

Hear that, Aussies?!! Don't get it twisted, I'm not hating... but get it right, please! After working at a café in Melbourne for a couple months and hearing Aussies call macarons "MACAROONS" all the damn time I nearly went crazy!!!! Bigups to the anonymous artist who created this fun little collage/printed piece pictured above. I would have added images of macaroons though. Ah well. I spotted this piece at the Space Invaders exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra last month, on 22 Feb 2011, to be exact. See below for definitions from Wikipedia. PS. This post is dedicated to Natalie, who gets more peeved than even I do when people call macarons "MACAROONS."

Macaron ― a sweet confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food coloring

Macaroon ― a type of light, baked confection, described as either small cakes or meringue-like cookies depending on their consistency
