[Product Review] EDEKA Cheesy Maple Pie

After hitting the shelves just this summer, I was super excited to try this product. No lie, the very notion that something maple-flavoured available in Germany delighted the inner Canadian in me!! This is what the product claims to be: a popsicle (or Eis am Stiel) consisting of cheesecake-flavoured ice cream covered in white chocolate and studded with caramelized walnut pieces. I should have put 2+2 together in the beginning, since the German attempt at "American-style" cheesecakes is by far the worst concoction known to man. How, then, could they be expected to pull off this popsicle flavour?!



Sadly, there's wasn't the slightest taste of cheese in this popsicle, Why the $&*# emblazon CHEESY all over the packaging when one cannot taste cheese in your product?!?! Pshhhhhhhhh. At the very least some maple syrup flavour existed inside the popsicle itself and that paired quite nicely with the crunchy walnuts. But then why not just call the popsicle White Chocolate Maple Walnut instead???!!? To call this popsicle PIE-like when it lacks even a hint of pie crust taste/texture is false advertising, folks!!!! I'm so bent outta shape that I'll end it right here.

Oatmeal Pancakes with Bacon & Maple Syrup

Much love to Auntie San for giving us this bigarse jar of maple syrup for #pasalubong! It especially comes in handy when we make pancakes. :) The stack on the left were made from whole wheat flour, while the stack on the right were made from regular white flour. Though what is popular/traditional in Canada is definitely not the case here. Tell a German you had pancakes with bacon & maple syrup for breakfast and you'll get a #screwface right back at 'cha! They just ain't sweet & salty fans I guess.

*SPOTTED! Maple Pecan Danish (Pekannusstasche mit Ahornsirup)

EEEEEEGADS, PEOPLE! I took an absolute FLIP when I saw these at a local supermarket not one week ago. You wouldn't believe how long I've longed for the maple pecan danish at Timmies (Anh, I'm pointing at YOU). I haven't had one in years and I'd been craving one sooooo badly recently and can you imagine how I excited I was to find an imitation version here?! German bakeries have awesome pastries to choose from, but this rather Canadian one just ain't common to see. How lucky am I that Edeka offers it during the holidays?! Naturally, I had to buy two for 1,69 € rather than one for 0,99 €.



The danish was definitely worth trying. At least now I know that I won't be buying it again. Why, you ask? Because you can't call it a maple PECAN danish with a measly 1.5 pecans in it! In total, (as you can see in the photo), a few small pieces of pecans are sprinkled on top. I was expecting to at least find some pecans inside the pastry, but NO. Can someone say... stingemeisters? Ja ja it was nice and flaky and some maple syrup flave was definitely there, but it ain't NOTHIN' compared to my beloved maple pecan danish from Timmies. END OF STORY. Only 3 more months... ...
