DSLR Camera Fun

What: just plain messin' around with the DSLR

Why: ...because being creative's fun?! It was André's idea.
How: 1-2 headlamps + wild arm flailing + 30 sec. exposure time



I think my fave is the Pac Man one, which I will not take credit for. Jeez, why didn't I think of that?!! Heaps of photos turned out crap the first time, and we did them again and again 'til they turned out decent... but it was well worth it! Luckily no one saw us or they might've thought we were crazy jumpin' around with headlamps at such an untimely hour. I cannot stress enough just how much fun this was!! Guess because I haven't really sketched/drawn/painted (or done anything arts-y) in the past while. May the creative juices continue to flow...

[Fotos] Karneval Braunschweig 2012

My first Karneval in Deutschland was dope! Trippy floats, kids in costumes, adults in costumes, live musical bands, dancing errywhere... sh.t was crazy! I seriously don't know how else to describe it but to say it's some sort of cross between the Santa Klaus Parade and Halloween. I guess you could also say it's a Mardi Gras with German flava, though I haven't yet been to the annual New Orleans event.













We celebrated Karneval here in Braunschweig last last Sunday, on 19 February 2012. 'Twas quite a nippy day, but nevertheless, here are the 3 things that will remain forever ingrained in my head: 1. Free candy (the people on the floats constantly throw candy out to the crowd throughout the entire parade, hence the Halloween-y vibe) 2. Drunken peeps (oh, did you forget that people can publicly drink alcohol here in Deutschland?!) 3. Grown@ss men in pink wigs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fred Herzog - Museum für Photographie - Braunschweig, DE

Who woulda thunk that there would be a photography exhibition featuring a German/Canadian's work here in little ol' Braunschweig? Team Canada, woo! In the midst of my current state of anxiety trying to find work as someone who doesn't speak German fluently (yet), this exhibition was like a ray of light shining in on one of my recent cloudier days.

Until 18 März 2012, Fred Herzog's work is currently on display at the Museum für Photographie. Outside the Museum, Herzog's Man with Bandage photo is blown up and printed on a large-scale canvas. Is it just me, or do the bare branches and the grey houses surrounding the photo in its bleak outdoor environment change the whole meaning of it? Photo of a photo, you already know though.
